Hideki Matsui is going back to Yomiuri with a different job. The former Yankees star has been introduced as the new manager of the Yomiuri Giants, the team where he began his professional career in Japan before crossing the Pacific to play in Major League Baseball.

Matsui spent a decade with the Giants from 1993 to 2002, becoming one of the most feared hitters in Japanese baseball. He then signed with the New York Yankees and played seven seasons in the Bronx, where he earned a reputation as a reliable power bat and a calm clubhouse presence. His most memorable moment came in the 2009 World Series, when he drove in six runs in the deciding game and was named series MVP.

After retiring as a player, Matsui stayed close to the game as a special advisor and instructor. Now he takes on the challenge of leading one of Japan's most storied franchises, which carries heavy expectations from fans and media alike.

The move marks a significant shift for Matsui, who has largely avoided managerial roles until now. His deep knowledge of both Japanese and American baseball could give the Giants a fresh approach as they look to compete for championships in the coming seasons.
