Jason Drew found himself "Gulfcoasting" across the sand last weekend, as beach volleyball officially joined the lineup at Sports Challenge America in Bonita Springs. The event, powered by Elevate SWFL, transformed the usual sports complex into a lively coastal social scene, drawing players and spectators alike to the newly installed courts.
For Drew, the experience was less about competition and more about community. "It is that laid-back, sandy atmosphere you usually only get on vacation," he said, brushing sand off his knees after a match. The term "Gulfcoasting" caught on quickly among participants, describing the easygoing style of play that mixes athleticism with a beach-day mindset.
Organizers set up multiple courts under the Florida sun, with music playing and cold drinks available on the sidelines. Unlike traditional indoor volleyball, the sand added an extra challenge for footwork and stamina. But for most, the appeal was the chance to unwind after a long week.
Elevate SWFL, known for hosting active lifestyle events, sees this as a way to keep Bonita Springs connected. "We wanted to bring that beach energy inland," said a representative. The turnout suggests they succeeded. With no links or additional content to follow, the message is simple: grab a towel, find a partner, and hit the sand.
