The Indiana Fever hit a new low on Thursday night, tying a league record for futility in a 91-79 loss to the Atlanta Dream. It was a nightmare performance that exposed just how far this team still has to go. The Fever committed 27 turnovers, matching the WNBA's all-time single-game mark for a regulation contest. They coughed up the ball on nearly every other possession, turning what should have been a competitive game into a sloppy, unwatchable mess.
Atlanta didn't need to do anything special. They simply watched Indiana hand them 27 extra possessions and turned those into 30 points. The Fever's starting backcourt alone accounted for 15 turnovers. Caitlin Clark, despite putting up 16 points and 7 assists, had 7 turnovers of her own. Kelsey Mitchell added 6. The team never found any rhythm, and the Dream took full advantage, building a double-digit lead in the third quarter and never looking back.
Indiana is going to have to be better than this going forward. You cannot win in this league when you give away the ball at that rate. It does not matter how talented the roster is or how many draft picks you have. The Fever have now lost five of their last six games, and the margin for error is gone. If they want to make any kind of push this season, they have to stop beating themselves first. Right now, they are their own worst enemy.
