WVU vs Iowa State: What to Look For

October 3, 2026 - 02:55

The West Virginia Mountaineers are coming off a difficult loss to a strong Oklahoma State team. Now the focus shifts to an Iowa State squad that has been hard to figure out this season. The Cyclones have shown flashes of quality but have also struggled with consistency, making them a tricky opponent to prepare for.

West Virginia will need to clean up mistakes from last week. Turnovers and missed opportunities hurt the Mountaineers against Oklahoma State, and repeating those errors could give Iowa State the opening it needs. The offense must establish a rhythm early and avoid falling behind.

Defensively, West Virginia has to contain Iowa State's playmakers and force the Cyclones into predictable situations. If the Mountaineers can pressure the quarterback and limit big plays, they should be in position to control the game.

This matchup matters for both teams as they look to build momentum. West Virginia has a chance to get back on track at home, while Iowa State wants to prove it belongs in the conversation. Expect a competitive game decided by execution and discipline.
