SMU Breaks New Ground With Texas Capital Jersey Deal

Southern Methodist University has secured a landmark sponsorship agreement with Texas Capital that will place the bank's branding on jerseys across all 17 of its varsity sports. The arrangement marks the first time a Texas university has signed a jersey sponsorship deal of this scope, covering every athletic program under one umbrella.

The partnership gives Texas Capital visibility at sporting events throughout the academic year, from football games at Ford Stadium to basketball matchups and Olympic sports competitions. For SMU, the deal represents a significant step in expanding its commercial footprint as the university continues to raise its athletic profile.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but the agreement is expected to generate substantial new revenue for the athletic department. That money could support facility upgrades, recruiting efforts, and operational costs at a time when college sports programs face increasing financial pressures.

The timing aligns with SMU's recent move into the Atlantic Coast Conference, which has elevated the school's national exposure. Pairing that conference transition with a broad jersey sponsorship signals the Mustangs are serious about competing at the highest level.

Texas Capital, headquartered in Dallas, gains a powerful local marketing platform through the deal. The bank's logo will appear on uniforms worn by student athletes in sports ranging from soccer and volleyball to golf and tennis.

The agreement reflects a growing trend in college athletics, where schools seek creative sponsorship opportunities beyond traditional stadium naming rights and media contracts. SMU now sits at the front of that movement in Texas.
