Culver City High School's boys' volleyball team just pulled off something unusual. They won the Southern Section Division 6 championship this season, and they did it while playing almost every single game away from their own gym.
Out of the entire season, the team only played two matches on their home court. Everything else was on the road. That includes playoff games, league matches, and early season tournaments. For most teams, that kind of travel and lack of home support would be a serious disadvantage. But for Culver City, it became part of their identity.
The team's head coach said the players never complained. They just showed up, played hard, and treated every gym like it was their own. The lack of a home crowd actually seemed to make them more focused. They stayed tight as a group, relying on each other instead of outside energy.
The championship game was no different. Culver City traveled to a neutral site and took control early. They played clean volleyball, kept errors low, and finished strong. The final score reflected a team that had been tested all year long.
This title means a lot for a program that doesn't always get the same attention as bigger schools. The players proved that success doesn't depend on where you play. It depends on how you play. And for Culver City, playing on the road turned out to be the perfect path to a championship.
