PHILADELPHIA, PA - For the first time in eight years, LeBron James wore something other than a Lakers jersey on a NBA court. The 39 year old forward suited up for the Philadelphia 76ers in a closed scrimmage on Tuesday afternoon, marking his first appearance with his new team since signing a two year deal earlier this summer.
The scrimmage, held at the team's practice facility, drew a small crowd of coaches, front office staff, and a handful of reporters. James looked comfortable running the offense alongside Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid, connecting on several pick and roll plays that had the gym buzzing. He finished with 18 points, seven assists, and six rebounds in roughly 24 minutes of action.
Head coach Nick Nurse said afterward that James picked up the system faster than expected. "He sees things before they happen," Nurse said. "That makes my job a lot easier." James declined to speak with media, but teammates described his presence as calming and competitive.
The 76ers open their preseason schedule next week. James is expected to play limited minutes as the team manages his workload ahead of the regular season.
