Bulls Edge Suns in Preseason Opener as Rookies Shine

October 8, 2026 - 05:39

The Chicago Bulls opened their preseason schedule with a 121-117 win over the Phoenix Suns, giving fans a first look at a roster in transition. While the final score carries little weight in October, the performance of several young players offered a glimpse of what the team hopes to build.

Rookies Caleb Wilson, Dailyn Swain and Tobe Awaka each had their moments. Wilson showed confidence with the ball in his hands, attacking the rim and pushing the pace when the opportunity appeared. Swain made his presence felt on the defensive end, using his length to disrupt passing lanes and contest shots. Awaka brought energy off the bench, battling on the glass and finishing through contact around the basket.

The game stayed close throughout, with both teams trading runs in the second half. Chicago's bench provided a spark in the closing minutes, holding off a late Phoenix surge to secure the victory. Veterans on the roster played limited minutes, leaving room for the younger players to log meaningful time.

Preseason results rarely predict the regular season, but for a Bulls team searching for internal growth, the development of its rookie class matters. If Wilson, Swain and Awaka can carry this momentum forward, Chicago may have found rotation depth it did not expect. The Bulls continue their preseason slate in the coming days.
